Private School Collaborations

The importance of addressing the different learning styles of independent school students has become increasingly recognized in recent years. C4L is uniquely suited to function as Learning Center Specialists because of our extensive training and experience in multiple disciplines: School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology, Special Education, and Teaching.

Our private school learning centers offer expertise in a variety of areas: assessment, diagnostics, remediation, progress monitoring, gifted and enrichment education, teacher education, curriculum development, and an understanding of the importance of social/emotional functioning. These various roles are at the heart of our learning centers.

Our presence on our campuses entails on-going collaboration with the administrators and teachers in order to facilitate effective communication between the school personnel and parents. Additionally, our presence on campus creates an environment where student progress can be carefully monitored and communicated.

Private School Collaborations - C4L

Services and Trainings

  • C4L assists independent schools in the development and implementation of Learning Centers in order to support those students whose potentials are not fully recognized.
  • C4L provides additional resources and trainings for independent schools with existing Learning Centers in order to build accountability and monitor effectiveness.
  • C4L’s assists independent schools in the development and implementation of data collection systems in order to guide restructuring efforts. Additionally, C4L provides the research expertise to examine the existing data and to provide reliable feedback and input for new initiatives.
  • C4L provides assistance to independent schools admission offices in the selection, administration, and analysis of entrance exams. In particular, effective assessment of students seeking to enter kindergarten facilitates the creation of a student body in line with the school’s values and culture.

In serving a variety of independent schools, we have been able to identify a combination of characteristics that typify the student who is referred to the Learning and Enrichment Center. Typically, this student is relatively strong cognitively (intellectually), but has some underlying processing issue, learning, or attention issues.

LEARNING AND ENRICHMENT CENTER

The Learning and Enrichment Center recognizes that children learn differently due to differences in background knowledge, learning styles, ability to focus, and processing speed. The importance of addressing the learning differences of independent school children has become increasingly recognized in recent years. It is no longer unusual to find a learning center, or similarly named center, for students in independent schools.  

In collaboration with the Center for Learning, the St. Margaret’s Learning and Enrichment Center supports the child who is very intelligent but whose full potential is not being realized. Instructional support in all disciplines as well as enrichment opportunities in Mathematics and English Language Arts are offered in the center. Additionally, licensed Psychologists offer behavioral interventions to enhance the student’s academic experience and ensure that intervening factors do not undermine the child’s ongoing success.

The St. Margaret’s Learning and Enrichment Center offers expertise in a variety of areas: assessment, diagnostics, remediation, progress monitoring, gifted and enrichment education, teacher education, curriculum development, and an understanding of the importance of social/emotional functioning. These various roles are at the heart of our Learning and Enrichment Center.  The Learning and Enrichment staff includes credentialed Educational Therapists who ensure valid and reliable implementation of these interventions. 

Regardless of the form of remediation, enrichment or support offered, St. Margaret’s Learning and Enrichment Center is committed to providing ongoing communication and collaboration with teachers and parents as well as an ongoing, data-driven means of measuring student response to intervention. Our experience has been that meeting frequently with parents and having more informal, ongoing communication with teachers is an effective way of making sure the communication loop is maintained.

St. Mary's School

St. Mary's School

Learning and support services are available to assist students in meeting St. Mary’s academic expectations. The Center for Learning provides research-based solutions for academic, processing, and organizational needs.  In addition, Center for Learning staff works closely with teachers and administrators at St. Mary’s in order to help students to realize their potential.

Since 2003, the Center for Learning has continued to pursue the goal of affecting positive change in students’ academic performance, study habits, and overall self-confidence. Thanks to a generous donation from the Hausman Foundation, the Center for Learning created a learning laboratory complete with assistive technology available to all of our students.

Goals of the Center for Learning:

  • Collaborate with administrators and teachers consistently to assist students
  • Identify issues early in order to prevents students from feeling unsuccessful
  • Recommend and provide early intervention strategies for home and school
  • Provide support for appropriate classroom accommodations for students  (i.e. extended time for tests).
  • Help students better understand their individual learning style
  • Provide additional communication between school and home with regard to student progress
  • Work with teachers to differentiate instruction in order to support students with different learning styles
  • Provide on-campus educational therapy on a fee-for-service basis, both for those students who will benefit from enrichment in an area of talent and for those students who are in need of support in one or more areas.
  • The Center for Learning is able to utilize neuropsychological/psycho-educational assessment results to develop an individual learning plan for students.
  • The Center for Learning is able to conduct neuropsychological/psycho-educational assessments on a fee for service basis.

The Center for Learning (C4L) staff consists of a strong, multidisciplinary team of directors, school/clinical psychologists, and learning specialists to support the students, parents, and faculty/staff members of Rosary Academy’s community. 

Our staff recognizes that students learn differently due to differences in background knowledge, learning styles, ability to focus, and processing speed. The importance of addressing the learning style of independent school students has become increasingly recognized in recent years. Rosary Academy’s C4L staff supports the student whose full potential is not being realized. 

Instructional support in all disciplines, as well as enrichment opportunities in Mathematics and English Language Arts, are offered in the Center. Additionally, school psychologists offer strategies to enhance the student’s academic experience and ensure that intervening factors do not undermine students’ ongoing success. 

Rosary Academy’s C4L staff is committed to providing ongoing communication and collaboration with teachers and parents, as well as a data-driven approach in order to measure student response to intervention. The C4L’s multi-disciplinary approach along with a passion for young people, empowers us to help each student realize their potential.

Tarbut V’Torah

The TVT Learning Center has collaborated with the Center for Learning and Behavioral Solutions to provide services reflecting assessment, research, and best practice in education. We provide educational resources, programs and support for all learners at TVT and offer a full-inclusion program for students with learning differences. Our teachers collaborate with C4L learning specialists to ensure the continuity of program services across all grade levels.

The TVT Learning Center program inspires and empowers students to become independent, life-long learners and fosters an environment for student success.  We support students of all ability levels and create personalized learning programs to maximize academic growth and development.

Educational Therapy is a form of therapy used to treat individuals with learning differences, disabilities, and challenges. A wide range of intensive interventions are offered that are designed to remediate learning problems. These interventions are individualized and unique to the specific learner.

Students can receive individualized, organizational support in the Learning Center. Students receive help with homework planning and completion, weekly grade checks, project timelines, supervision and follow up. Group Support classes are offered for students in grades 6–12 during the school day. Organizational support sessions are offered after school for students in grades 3-5.

Westerly School

Westerly School

The Westerly Student Support Center collaborates with the Center for Learning to provide school-based services to students, teachers, and families. The Student Support Center upholds Westerly’s mission of cultivating students’ sense of belonging within a diverse community of learners.

The team promotes the social emotional development of all students through SEL education, group counseling, and individual school counseling services.

Center for Learning staff consult with teachers to accommodate various learning needs in the classroom and to partner with parents seeking recommendations for assessment, intervention, and enrichment for their learners.
